Class Description – Floating Body – Modern Dance with elements of Tai-Chi Dao-Yin

Chiang-Mei Wang’s style of dance is a fusion of modern dance techniques with elements of a special style of Tai Chi, called Tai-Chi Dao-Yin, in which the body energy manifests itself in spiral- and wavelike movements. It resembles swimming in space. The body is the water, sometimes still, gently rocking or wild like the waves of the ocean. The power of the movement results from the give and take between tension and release. The Tai-Chi Dao-Yin elements within this technique bring about a greater resilience of ligaments and tendons and such prevent injuries. The aim is a kind of dance that also promotes health and wellbeing without overexploitation on the body. Natural sequences of movements in harmony with breathing label the dance style of Chiang-Mei Wang.
