class description:
However confident we are of how we move, our body continues and will continue to be mysterious and there will always be room for new discoveries, experiences and challenges. What surrounds us is influential and inconstant … we must adapt and be physically and mentally vulnerable. We will go on a journey where we will discover new ways of using the body and how to use it for and against our imagination. I believe that during class we are not only training our body, but we are also training our performative skills and how these can influence our movement and way of moving.The class starts with exercises that create and warm up the capacity of awareness of the body around the space and the people in it. At this moment we will work/play with the ideas of timing, body manipulation, weight shifting and efficiency while at the same time we slowly start to warm up the spine, muscles, and articulations. This will develop it to a more “performative” training where while improvising with others, we can find and research different impulses and different intentions while doing a certain physical task and hopefully find a different way of moving through. After we start a couple of exercises crossing the space where we will go from the floor to jumping using different techniques from floorwork to partnering looking for creating an efficient but vulnerable body that can be ready, warm and available for the rest of the day.
