short bio:
I am an Indian independent artist based in Kassel (Germany), working as teacher and guest professor for a variety of dance institutions and universities, as well as developing my own creations. My work, with current emphasis in improvisation and physical movement, utilises the experiences encountered in my life to draw upon, constructing safe and deeply authentic environments, bringing the students fully into a learning and creative process. I have spent last fifteen years studying the methods of Flying Low and Passing Through, created by David Zambrano, the main focus of my teaching practise, and ambassador of sharing this work across India, Europe and further afield. This is a fundamental part of my movement practise and philosophical understanding of what dance represents in the wider context of community and culture.
class description:
IndYog-Contemporary:
Class starts with conditioning the body through yoga and movements. We dive into Indian traditional outdoor games elements that can help to enjoy and experience life at its best. The next part of the class takes participants into playing with momentum, suspension and dynamic floor routines. It also combines floor exploration with antigravity falls, recovery, agile partnering and strength-based technique which allows the individual to discover organic body rhythms and floor connections. With powerful footwork, intricate hand gestures, rhythms and spins help the participant get exposed to the Indian forms of movements. We will use body toning and martial arts exercises to keep the energy level high throughout the class. To keep alertness and concentration participants will be engaged in partnering coordination exercises The class ends with physical demanding multidirectional phrases and vocabulary from Narendra’s research work.
Flying Low:
Originator — David Zambrano
After more than 15 years as a close follower of David Zambrano, Narendra shares a number of phrases which experiment on the Flying Low principles. The Flying Low classes focus mainly on the dancer’s relationship with the floor. The class utilises simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and the release of energy throughout the body in order to activate the relationship between the centre and the joints, moving in and out of the ground more efficiently by maintaining a centred state. There is a focus on the skeletal structure that will help improve the dancers physical perception and alertness. The class includes partnering work and movement phrases, which explore the primary laws of physics: cohesion and expansion.
Expressive Body:
The focus will be on building and expanding imagination and creativity in spontaneous performance. As a choreographer, Narendra will lead you to work on different movement possibilities and approaches through his research and investigation. Participants will be given specific tasks to understand how to create different body language as a performer.
