guest artistic director for 2023
Susanne Schneider will be the guest artistic director for the seasons of 2023 and 2024. After 7 years of curating the teachers that offer professional classes in Munich director Jasmine Ellis is excited to hand over the reins to Susanne, as new approaches and perspectives can only help to foster a stronger free scene for all!

Susanne Schneider lives in Munich and works as a dancer, dance teacher and researcher/choreographer. For her, dance education/transmission is central to the art form of dance, as a bridge between researching dance artists, dancing participants and the perceiving audience. In formats such as Physical Introduction and Physical Traces, she gives the audience a sensual entry before and after a dance performance. She teaches classes for professional dancers, workshops for less experienced dancers and projects in schools with a focus on kinesthetic empathy. One concern is to bring artistic research into educational contexts and to blur the boundaries between studio and stage, training and performance. Together with the Playground & Co team, she organizes various exchange formats for interested and professional dancers in Munich.
She began her dance training in Barcelona in 2007 and studied educational science, European ethnology and comparative religion at the LMU in Munich. In 2014 she completed her studies with a BA in dance at the Cologne University of Dance and Music (HfMT Cologne). Since 2013 she has been working closely with CocoonDance as a freelance dancer. She co-created dance pieces situated in the field of New Circus and Fine Arts with Overhead Project and Özlem Alkis. In order to deepen her interest in education/transmission, she studied the Master of Contemporary Dance Education at the HfMDK Frankfurt and completed her master’s thesis on kinaesthetic empathy in contemporary dance (education) in 2020.
